Hawaii's island of discovery

From the Aloha spirit to the Shaka, and the Tiki to the Akua, Hawaiian culture focuses on interconnectedness of man to each other and of man to the Earth. Based around ancient mythology and the influence of cultures from New Zealand, indigenous America, the UK, and Polynesia, the state of Hawaii offers a unique insight into the different ways man can live in peace with himself, his neighbours, and his planet. The island of Kaua'i is no exception...

The oldest island in Hawaii

Although one of the last islands to join the Kingdom of Hawaii, Kaua'i is actually the oldest island in the area. At approximately six million years old, Kaua'i was formed as a series of volcanoes and the highest peak, Kawaikini, stands at 5,243 feet above sea level today.

A great way to get involved in the culture of Kaua'i is to take part in one of our Luaus. Dine on local delicacies such as Kalua Pig, Lomi Salmon, and Haupia. Watch as locals and fellow travellers dance the night away to the sound of ukuleles and drums on the beach as the sun sets. Make sure to bring a lei with you or get creative and make one of your own! They are an important part of our traditions and no luau is complete without them.

What our guests say

"The nightly entertainment, as well as the other cultural activities such as lei-making, was a real plus, and unlike anything you'll find at most Courtyards."
